Frequent Spielberg collaborating producer
Gerald R. Molen is developing Gary W. Moore's sports drama "Playing With the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, a World at War, and a Field of Broken Dreams" via WhiteLight Entertainment reports Variety.
Molen has optioned Moore's recently published nonfiction book, based on his father's experiences during World War II. WhiteLight is fully financing the project, which is set to start shooting in February.
After being drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers as a 15-year-old prodigy in 1940, Gene Moore joined the Navy and was sent on a secret mission to guard German POWs during which he taught enemy soldiers how to play baseball.
Screenplay was penned by
David Ranes and the author's son, Toby Moore, who's also set to portray his grandfather. WhiteLight's also developing a live-action adaptation of Miyazaki anime classic "Lupin the 3rd".
