Plot: Zabou Breitman's bright, seductive second feature has so much going for it that it's hard to know where to start. One could begin with the setting: the French countryside, where a vacationing family enjoys sun-dappled days followed by dinner alfresco in the company of family and friends. The film's visual beauty is another of its strengths: Michel Amathieu's cinematography is silky and sweet; it captures the dreamy pace of summer days in languorous tracking shots. L'Homme de sa vie also features a very well-written and conceived screenplay: alert, adult and audacious. And finally, Breitman has assembled a cast who slide effortlessly into their assigned roles. Everything about this film is just right from start to finish.The family that centres the story is typically middle-class, but just happens to be well-adjusted and happy. Frédéric (Bernard Campan) is deeply in love with his wife, Frédérique (Léa Drucker) - even their names mirror each other - and they have a jolly, rambunctious child prone to dressing up in Superman outfits and clambering all over his father. There are no clouds on their horizon. Long hours are spent soaking up the sun, swimming in nearby rivers and enjoying wine and food on terraces.
