Tagline: Before the first movie, there was high school. They missed the bus
Plot: From the very beginning, Lloyd Christmas (Eric Christian Olsen) knew he had a friend for life in Harry Dunne (Derek Richardson). It’s the first day of high school and Harry, who previously has been home schooled by his mother (Mimi Rogers), needs someone to show him the ropes. Lloyd, who conveniently lives in the school’s basement with his adoptive dad/school custodian Ray (Luis Guzman), turns out to be just the guy.As the two set out to crack the “big show” (aka high school), they unwittingly fall into the web of the corrupt Principal Collins (Eugene Levy) and his girlfriend, head lunch lady Ms. Heller (Cheri Oteri), who want them to be the first students in a phony “special needs” class in order to bilk $100,000 in grant money for themselves. As Harry and Lloyd enthusiastically venture out to recruit more students for this new class, they unwittingly catch the attention of the beautiful Jessica Matthews (Rachel Nichols), a hard-hitting reporter for the school’s newspaper, who suspects foul play. Trying to help Jessica, while unintentionally ear-deep in the plot themselves, Harry and Lloyd bumble into a shot at greatness when a supreme act of stupidity at the school’s Thanksgiving Day Parade turns the tables on Principal

The silly plot involving Levy's evil principal and lack of funny jokes turns Dumb and Dumberer into an ordeal along the lines of other lame comedies like Boat Trip and Tomcats. Do yourself a favor and just re-watch the original instead. --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
It's got some funny parts, and I suppose you could see movies that are worse than this one. But you also could see movies that are betterer. --Brian Gallagher (MovieWeb)
That might be true, because after 82 minutes of "Dumb and Dumberer", I felt like I aged just about that many years. Maybe they should have called it "Numb and Numberer." Ugh. --Sean Driscoll (MovieWeb)
It's subtitled "When Harry Met Lloyd", but if this preposterous prequel were being honest, it would have called itself "Cheap, Lazy Cash-In". --Jamie Russell (BBC Films)
As a big fan of the original, I’d just as soon not acknowledge this film exists. My hunch is that stars Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson feel similarly. 40/100--Ryan Cracknell (Apollo Guide)

Amusing comedy that more than lives up to its title but is better than it has any right to be, thanks to strong comic performances and a good blend of both verbal and visual gags. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
A pointless and fruitless effort at reviving the humour of one of the Farrelly brothers' best works. 3/10--Gary Panton (Movie Gazette)
