At Sky High, the student body throw flames with their footballs, study Villainy with their Chemistry and are divided into “Heroes” and “Sidekicks” instead of jocks and geeks. It’s an out-of-this-world yet completely recognizable place where cool gadgetry, rampant bravery and awe inspiring magical skills mix it up with parental battles, peer pressure and dating trouble—with explosively fun results. This year’s class features some of the best, brightest and most powerfully gifted superteens ever assembled. And then there’s Will Stronghold (MICHAEL ANGARANO). When you’re the son of the world’s most legendary super heroes, The Commander (KURT RUSSELL) and Jetstream (KELLY PRESTON), people expect you to live up to the family name. One could successfully argue that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Batman Begins are more complete motion pictures, but it's hard to deny that Sky High has more charm. With likeable characters, an involving and amusing storyline, and solid direction, the film's appeal is hard to deny. Ignore the lame trailers and give Sky High a shot. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
Failing to even come up with unique superpowers for its cast of fantastic plastic men, giant rock things, quicksilver speed demons, and fiery human torches, the proceedings ultimately fail to become anything more than a dull, kid-friendly regurgitation of readily available (and superior) iconographic comics. --Nicholas Schager (FilmCritic.com)
Overall, though, "Sky High" is excellent family entertainment. The cast is likable, the laughs come consistently and it moves along quickly...It's one of summer's most pleasant surprises. --PAUL DORO
"Sky High" is an absolute treat from start to finish, against all calculable odds, and I expect it will become a kooky little cult favorite of all the comic book geeks out there. They might be too embarrassed to admit it, but I'm sure as hell not: I had a ball with "Sky High," and I suspect that lots of stunned moviegoers are going to walk out feeling the same way. --Scott Weinberg (eFilmCritic.com)

This is a PG film aimed at kids, and I suppose they'll enjoy it. But as has often been pointed out by people like me in situations like this, the adults at the screening I attended were laughing more than the kids. The humor is not necessarily subversive, but it is often subtle and cleverly conceived, which is a super feat indeed. B+--Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
So fans of "Batman Begins" need not attend. Those who appreciated that infinitely cleverer "Fantastic Four" spoof "The Incredibles" might want to take their tuition elsewhere, too. --Bob Strauss (L.A. Daily News)
