Plot: Pat Conroy just accepted a teaching assignment at an under-funded school on a remote South Carolina Island. When he arrives, Pat discovers that his pupils are all illiterate, retarded, or both. To make matters worse, the rigid administration refuses to aid him in his quest to stimulate designated "slow" students. But Pat won't give up; he's determined to give these kids all he's got. With a little pizazz, a lot of commitment and tons of love, he'll manage to teach these kids to everything from yoga to Beethoven.
