 Synopses for Beautiful Creatures (2000)
1.In the witty and daringly original contemporary thriller BEAUTIFUL CREATURES set in Glasgow, Scotland, Dorothy (Susan Lynch) and Petula (Rachel Weisz) are two women with one thing in common – they both have rotten taste in men. After a dangerous encounter with her boyfriend Tony (Iain Glenn), Dorothy decides to leave town with her faithful dog, when she happens on Petula, who is being beaten by her equally volatile beau Brian (Tom Mannion). Springing to Petula’s defence, Dorothy accidentally kills Brian.

Panicked, the two women hatch a dangerous and bizarrely hilarious scheme to convince Brian’s menacing older brother Ronnie (Maurice Roeves) that he has been kidnapped. Their bold-faced plan runs awry however, when the corrupt and leering Detective Inspector Hepburn (Alex Norton) shows up. Hepburn has a plan of his own, which includes collecting part of the ransom money and, perhaps, Petula as well.

When Dorothy’s boyfriend Tony reappears and also wants in on the scam, the elaborate cat and mouse game comes to a head.

Three dangerous men. Two beautiful women.

These poor guys. They don’t stand a chance.

2.

Petula (Rachel Weisz) meets Dorothy (Susan Lynch) when Dorothy smacks a lead pipe into the head of Petula's boyfriend, who was strangling Petula at the time. Thus begins the darkly comic thriller Beautiful Creatures--a little bit Thelma & Louise, a little bit Alfred Hitchcock at his most sardonic. When Petula's boyfriend dies, she and Dorothy cook up a scheme to extort money out of the boyfriend's rich and vicious older brother--a scheme that would probably have fallen to pieces until an investigating police detective named George starts to help it along for devious reasons of his own. Soon Dorothy and Petula are coping with a bitten-off finger, Dorothy's own nasty boyfriend, a salesclerk with a bondage fetish, and more. Fans of movies with a similarly deadpan tone (like Bound, Fargo, and Pulp Fiction) will love the film's caustic humor, and both Weisz and Lynch are delightful. Fast-paced and unpredictable, Beautiful Creatures is a witty thriller that deserves attention. --Bret Fetzer

3."A funny, fast-paced ride!" -Movieline

Sexy. Witty. On-the-edge Thriller. Beautiful Creatures stars Rachel Weisz (The Mummy series) as Petula and Susan Lynch (Waking Ned Devine) as Dorothy. These two sexy creatures have only one thing in common - rotten taste in men.

When Petula and Dorothy cover up the accidental murder of one jerk boyfriend, they hatch a hilarious scheme to collect a huge ransom. It's a perfect plan until a corrupt detective and an old beau want in on the scam. How will this cat-and-mouse game end?

Venice Magazine calls Beautiful Creatures "an edgy roller coaster ride!" Three dangerous men. Two beautiful women. These poor guys… don't stand a chance.
