Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Reviews |
"Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" contains a lot of comedy and invention, but doesn't much benefit from its clever style. The characters and plot are so promising that maybe Black should have backed off and told the story deadpan, instead of mugging so shamelessly for laughs... [read review] --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
But Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is different than most other movies in the genre. In a way, the movie is a love story, but not the one between Harry and Harmony onscreen—this is Black's love letter to the pulps he loved growing up and that inspired his career, and his affection can be felt on every frame. It is a beautiful gesture. [read review] --PAM GRADY (Reel.com)
The picture is an unusual assortment of tones, sometimes violent, sometimes silly, often both, but it never tires, which should be fully accredited to the filmmaker’s deft writing and unexpectedly skillful direction. “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” is a delightful return to the spotlight for Shane Black, reminding the viewer that he was gone for far too long. Whatever the problem was, Black has overcome it with "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," writing and directing it almost to giddy perfection. It's set during the Christmas season, too, which qualifies it as a holiday movie. 'Tis the season for over-the-top violence and delightfully absurdist humor! [read review] A- --Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang works as a buddy cop picture, a noir, and a straight-up comedy. The same witty banter and tight action (even some of the same gags – but funnier) of previous Black efforts are present here. [read review] --David Thomas (FilmCritic.com)
...it’s still a ton more original than most films coming out nowadays, so I’d still slightly recommend it in theaters for anyone who enjoys film noir, dark humor, groovy dialogue and murder, murder, murder. [read review] 6/10 --'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)
"Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang'' takes film noir out of the darkness into Los Angeles' candy-colored universe and still manages to suggest that paranoia, violence and loss are just a kiss - or a bang - away. [read review]
Heavy on style and light on substance, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is a postmodern pastiche for those who like the artifice of motion pictures and the sleazy side of America exposed with a smile. [read review]
Sharply written, frequently hilarious comedy-drama, packed with in-jokes, witty lines and great sight gags and featuring superb performances from Kilmer and Downey Jnr. [read review] --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
