The Pacifier Reviews |
The macho-posturing, basso-voiced star is so painfully unfunny as a Navy Seal forced to take charge of a family of obnoxious suburban kids that it makes last week's cinematic exploration of surrogate parenthood by an authority figure — "Man of the House," with Tommy Lee Jones — look like a Billy Wilder comedy in comparison. [read review] --Lou Lumenick (New York Post)
The Pacifier is what action stars do when their careers are in the commode, not when they have merely stumbled a bit....Let’s hope future projects are a little brighter for Diesel, because The Pacifier is a movie that the muscles from Brussels, Jean-Claude Van Damme, would have declined. [read review] --Uri Lessing (eFilmCritic.com)
But no matter how many poopy diapers Wolfe sticks his hands into and no matter how much cereal is thrown at him, this slapstick comedy is almost never funny. Only in the opening, which parodies a commando team in action, does the humor ever come close tobeing effective. [read review]
“The Pacifier” is aptly named in that it will probably keep younger viewers in a reasonably contented state for awhile, giving their adult companions some respite from the constant commotion. That’s not great praise, but it’s all the movie deserves. [read review] C
Nevertheless, Diesel does his best to be a good sport. I wouldn't exactly call this a winning quality of the movie, but it's the only thing giving the film any personality. Unfortunately, it also alludes to its forgettability. [read review] 3/10
The world was hardly crying out for a remake of Hulk Hogan's ``Mr. Nanny,'' and this similar big-fish-out-of-water comedy touches the predictable full-diaper, vomiting and shots-to-the-groin bases. [read review]
Against all odds, this is a delightful, involving comedy with a little suspense and action thrown in. Vin Diesel is surprisingly sensitive and comedic as hard-as-nails warrior Shane Wolfe. [read review] 7/10
...The Pacifier could have been a thousand times worse. For that reason alone, it’s one of the biggest surprises in this early movie year -- and a possible career rejuvenator for Diesel. [read review] --Pete Croatto (FilmCritic.com)
The problem with "The Pacifier" is that it's all about watching Diesel battle bad guys instead of building bonding moments among his character's surrogate family. [read review] --Ron Weiskind (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)
By that time, the audience may be dulled by the sound of snoozing - at least from those who've already worked their way through movies such as Kindergarten Cop. [read review] D+
Pacifiers are for infants. The same is true of The Pacifier. In fact, "infantile" may be the best single word to describe this Kindergarten Cop wannabe. [read review] --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
Casting is only funny when the cast is given something funny to do, a truth that should be engraved above the portals of every film school. [read review] --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "The Pacifier" thuds to a stupid, infantile 2. Even the most basic sit-com slapstick needs a story. [read review] 2/10
It's the subgenre of the quarter: macho men coping with undisciplined minors, with dashes of unearned sentiment and unpersuasive bonding. [read review]
"The Pacifier" is an abysmal comedy that should have been strangled in its crib. [read review] --Jami Bernard (New York Daily News)
