Genre: Action, Thriller, Adventure, Spy

Plot: Tom Cruise, the most exciting and successful star in the world, returns to one of his signature roles, Secret Agent Ethan Hunt, in "Mission: Impossible III." In this pulse-racing, mind-bending action thriller, Hunt confronts the toughest villain he's ever faced -- Owen Davian (Academy Award® winner Philip Seymour Hoffman), an international weapons and information provider with no remorse and no conscience.

The film is co-written and directed by J.J. Abrams, who brings his unique blend of action, character, comedy, and drama to the franchise. The millions of loyal viewers of Abrams's landmark creations, the television series "Lost" and "Alias," know what to expect: an enthralling, intricate story with an unexpected and arresting payoff that satisfies on every level.

With "M:i:III," Abrams and Cruise turn the spy thriller on its ear as they hark back to the best aspects of the original TV series that inspired the films -- a well-connected team of agents centered around a bold and heroic leader, the most exciting action stunts imaginable, and elaborate twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. "M:i:III" is the action movie audiences have been waiting for.

external link...This Mission satisfies more than the original, but is a few steps behind the first sequel. As summer fare, it's okay, and there's enough flash to justify a trip to a theater. But all the hype can't hide the fact that Mission: Impossible III is a routine action feature, and is unlikely to be regarded as anything better. 2.5/4

external linkJ.J. Abrams breathes new life into "Mission: Impossible" and proves that the franchise still has some life in it. If you liked the first two, you'll more than likely enjoy this. I personally thought it was better than "M:I-2."
--Scott Chitwood (ComingSoon.net)

external link...More attention to story and character would have paid off dividends in a more satisfying all-around movie. Instead, what we get is a tepid fireworks display. Praise the Lord and pass the Ritalin. 2.5/4
--PAM GRADY (Reel.com)

external linkMission is a blast, a proper kickoff to the summer season. It proves Hollywood remains capable of staging taut adventures on the big screen, though it’s going to take innovative small-screen directors like Abrams to usher in the next wave of potential blockbusters. 4/5
--Sean O'Connell (FilmCritic.com)

external linkIt needs to be seen on the big screen, and this is the type of movie I'll watch regularly for years whenever it is on. I enjoyed every minute and although it was a shade over 2 hours, there was no urge to check my watch. If you're an action fan, this is a must see. 5/5
--Billy Bob (Moviesforguys.com)

external link...is exciting, kinetic and intelligent, J.J. Abrams theatrical debut as good as anything he's produced on television. And that's saying something for the man who brought us Alias and Lost. The best Mission yet, M:I III marks a tremendous start to the summer season. 4/5
--Joe Utichi (FilmFocus.co.uk)

external linkAn audience asks so little of a film like MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3 that it is doubly disappointing when it fails to deliver on even such low expectations. There’s more entertainment in any of the television episodes, not to mention less demonds on one's time, and a lower ticket price. 2/5
--Andrea Chase (Killer Movie Reviews)

external link...captures the tone of the classic television show yet never takes itself too seriously. Where the first two films played things pretty straight, this edition mixes in more humor and heart. Abrams and Cruise have succeeded in creating a thrill ride of afilm and the perfect summer popcorn movie for those who like their films packed with non-stop action. A-
--Rebecca Murray (About.com)

external linkIt's not deep or particularly brilliant, but it moves like a bullet, and it's the very best of the series so far. Mr. Abrams displays a nifty knack for balancing kinetic craziness and character-based quirk, and his debut feature turns out to be a mindlessly appealing piece of expensive escapism that I wouldn't mind seeing again. And as far as the "Mission Impossible" movies are concerned, that would be a first for me. 4/5
--Scott Weinberg (eFilmCritic.com)

external linkThis is a divine, rollicking, fingernail-chewing action thriller, and kicks off the abnormally diverse summer 2006 moviegoing season with a deafening roar. 5/5
--Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)

external link...He directs the hell out of those action scenes, too, with daring camerawork and sharp editing that belie his inexperience with big-screen adventures. You won't believe a minute of it, but you'll certainly smile at the infectious high-spirited energy of it all. B
--Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)

external link...Overall, I think my buddy Arrow said it best as we walked out of the theater and straight into the nearest watering hole, “Pretty much what I expected.” Yes, if you’re expecting a fun, all-around action packed summer blockbuster starring the man with the million dollar smile, Tom Cruise... 7/10

external linkAs a big summer action flick, Mission Impossible III delivers the goods. It doesn't break new ground in the genre the way the Bourne series has and nor does it have the classic status of the Bond films, but as mindless entertainment it's certainly enjoyable. 3/4
--Scott Nash (TheMovieBuffs.com)

external linkNevertheless, I recommend all movie-lovers (Cruise-haters or not), to check out M:I3. It's an admirable big screen directorial debut for J.J. Abrams, who has indubitably left a certain "Alias" feel to the movie, with all the tricks and gadgets, right down to the quirky computer guy - although I much prefer the Alias computer geek. M:I3 is a good time to be had by all and a very satisfying opening to the 2006 summer blockbuster season. 8/10
--Brendan Cullin (EmpireMovies.com)

external link...I guess Hollywood has become so sophisticated that it can now make an entire $100 million movie that lasts more than two hours and never tell its audience what all the hubbub was about. 7/10
--Tony Medley (TonyMedley.com)

external linkIt is what it is, which is popcorn fun, but it also goes an extra mile in trying to create a thread that doesn't just tie the big special effects moments together. The idea of testing a duty-bound protagonist's capacity for love is not anything new, but the effort to make it central is easily noted and much appreciated. And by not completely falling apart in the most basic mechanisms of plot and action, the movie automatically qualifies as better than the last two movies combined. 7/10
--Jeffrey Chen (WindowToMovies.com)

external linkAn impressive big screen debut for Lost creator J.J. Abrams, this is a blockbuster that’s actually worthy of the name, featuring non-stop action, spectacular set-pieces, superb performances and a decent plot – the summer starts here. 4/5
--Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)

external link...There’s no question that this is Abrams’ show, and while the reins do come loose in the end, the young director has done an admirable job in creating not only the best installment of the series, but the first real blockbuster of the summer. 4/5
--Jason Zingale (Bullz-eye.com)

external link...But for thinking audiences, there's a tedious repetition to the incessant rat-a-tat-tat of a mindless film like this one, and people who require some intelligence from the films they pay money to see will leave the theater mentally fatigued. 2/5
--Dawn Taylor (eFilmCritic.com)

external link...The pacing is fast as an action film should be and as mentioned previous, adding a coherent story to an action film makes for a nice bonus. The real impossibility was making a third film in a series that was better than the first two, but director J.J. Abrams has managed to do it. 3/4
