The ultimate professional bachelor, Hitch suddenly finds himself falling deliriously in love with Sara, a reporter whose biggest scoop could very well be the unmasking of Manhattan’s most famous date

Like most romantic comedies, this one is light on surprises, with predictability being considered an asset by many aficionados. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
There is a purpose for a movie like "Hitch," and that purpose is to supply a pleasant and undemanding romantic comedy that you can rent next Valentine's Day. --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
The film is a standard-issue rom-com in almost every respect, but the irresistible charm of its lead pushes it over the top. B---Rob Vaux (Flipsidemovies.com)
Hitch is a surprisingly smart and fine-tuned romantic comedy that makes up for its genre-specific clichés with acute characterizations and affecting charm. --Vince Leo (Qwipster.net)
Smith is effortlessly likeable, and not in that desperately oversmiling and overjoking manner he can often fall back on, but relaxed, intelligently and confidently so, a true gentleman. Which makes it all the more painful to see him saddled with this unsightly mess of a romantic comedy that can’t even come up with a worthwhile recipient for all his attention. --Chris Barsanti (FilmCritic.com)
A wry comedy that debunks the dating mystique is a promising premise but falls more or less into the contrived category......Witty repartee cozies up to a flimsy plotline, rendering the result vapidly amusing. --Jeanne Aufmuth
If you own a television set or have attended the cinema at some point during the past six months, you have probably seen the previews for Hitch, and laughed at them. Indeed, they are very funny, but the scenes which they belong to are also just about theonly entertaining parts of the movie (aside from those at the very beginning). The rest of it is simply a slew of detached mediocrity, sparsely proficient but mostly drowning in its own indifference. --Danny Baldwin (BucketReviews.com)
If you take it for what it is, a bit of fluff that won't linger much past the closing credits, it can’t help but evoke that rosy glow that only romance can engender...Hitch is a pleasant enough meringue of a romantic comedy. Light, sweet, and essentiallyinsubstantial. --Andrea Chase (Killer Movie Reviews)
While “Hitch” contains the germ of a good idea, I suppose, it lacks the necessary burst of creativity that would transform it from the formulaic to the truly memorable. --Peter Sobczynski (eFilmCritic.com)
“Hitch” is the best Valentine’s Day movie I’ve seen in a while, but that’s only because Valentine’s Day comes in February, which is possibly the worst cinematic month of the entire year. When you're this desperate, simple watchability starts to look likegenius. --Loey Lockerby (eFilmCritic.com)
As a whole, “Hitch” is as bubbly and sparkling as a glass of Champagne – the perfect accompaniment to that box of chocolates this Valentine’s Day weekend. --Elaine Perrone (eFilmCritic.com)
...Hitch ends with a drawn-out ending that will make you long for the credits. --Uri Lessing (eFilmCritic.com)
A smart romantic comedy and a fabulous showcase for its leads and New York City setting, ``Hitch'' is the first pleasant movie surprise of 2005. Set in the giddy world of celebrities and the gossip columnists and stalkerazzi who chronicle their every move, ``Hitch'' is the film ``Alfie'' hoped to be, but wasn't. --James Verniere

You know what…I really wasn’t in the “mood” to see this film. I thought the trailer looked like recyclable dogcrap, the over-emphasis on the “dancing scene” between Will Smith and Kevin James was just pissing me off and I’ve been single for as long as the Internet was invented ... 7/10--'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)
While the tug of war culminates in a way that seems less than believable, I appreciated the fact that there was at least a tug of war occurring, replacing most romances’ moonlit clichés. --Steven Snyder
In the end, while both of these performers look great together, they really don’t seem to belong together. And that’s the biggest hitch in Hitch. --Steve Davis (Austin Chronicle)
For a fairly typical romantic comedy, Hitch is a mildly entertaining diversion that ultimately becomes engulfed in its formulaic trappings. --Mark Dujsik
"Hitch" isn't a major-league romantic comedy by classic standards, but in a genre populated these days by the crass and vulgar, it pleases more than most. --Ed Blank
...Hitch is, of course, your standard romantic comedy but is just good enough due to the charms of star Will Smith....Because this is in an over-used (and predictable) genre, don't expect anything of substance, just a good and funny time. --Brian Oliver
Enjoyable romantic comedy that is sharply written and frequently laugh-out-loud funny...the film runs out of steam towards the end and is at least 15 minutes too long, but it’s still an enjoyable, better-than-average, romcom with some genuinely funny scenes... --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
