Plot: A story of courage, passion and of the greatest American sports hero you have probably never heard of...An amateur player from a working class family, Francis Ouimet (Shia LaBeouf), shocked the world when at the 1913 U.S. Open, flanked by his 10-year-old caddie, he defeated his idol, the defending British champion Harry Vardon (Stephen Dillane). An unlikely match-up, "the ingénue versus the seasoned champ", theirs was the greatest match the sport had ever know.

The performances are fine. The story is fine. Bill Paxton proves a skill behind the camera finer than most. It just isn’t great.

"The Greatest Game Ever Played" isn't the greatest film ever made, but it's nice. It's absolutely a formula feel good sport's film. It's a natural to succeed at its goal (much like its main character), as long as it doesn't make any dire mistakes or choke on a stroke.
