Fun with Dick and Jane Reviews

external linkA lot of talented, successful people were involved in the making of this movie, and the high laugh-count in the film's first act attests to their abilities. But, as with so many big comedies, these same folks just can't keep the whole thing afloat from start to finish. It's too bad, because there was potential here...Fun With Dick and Jane is a rip-off—in more ways than one. [read review] 2/4
--GARY GOLDSTEIN (Reel.com)
external linkEven though it clocks in at a relatively brief 90 minutes, “Fun with Dick and Jane” is as excruciating to watch as it is depressing to contemplate afterwards. This is smug and condescending filmmaking at its worst and its tirades against greed and wastefulness ring especially hollow when they are asking audiences to pay $10 a head for a film without a single funny joke to speak of. [read review] 1/5
--Peter Sobczynski (eFilmCritic.com)
external linkYet it's hard to find too much fault with a movie as cheerfully twisted as this one, with giddy jokes like young Billy, having been raised mostly by the immigrant maid, speaking with a Mexican accent, or the general delight in hearing yuppies use terms like "caper" and "vault job" even though they have no legitimate experience in either. --Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
external linkThe film’s simplistic overview of the corporate scams still plaguing the U.S. today also took a bunch of liberties, but at least attempted something inventive in terms of the film’s plotline. Most comedies will resort to sitcom stories, so kudos to the filmmakers for – at the very least – attempting to jazz things up. That said…this is a rental at best. [read review] 5/10
--'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)
external link“Fun with Dick and Jane” isn’t a taxing motion picture, and provides no-frills entertainment to those easy to please. The film coasts on Carrey’s enthusiasm alone and without him, I can only imagine how lackluster this remake would be. [read review] 4/5
--Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)
external linkThe script (Judd Apatow) is tight and funny. Dean Parisot keeps the action well paced so that there is not one minute that drags. This is a comedy of ultimate revenge. At 90 minutes, it’s silly and enjoyable. [read review] 7/10
--Tony Medley (TonyMedley.com)
external linkThe original version of FUN WITH DICK AND JANE from 1977 was a sharp social satire with the advertised fun, and a wicked kind of fun at that. This version ain’t. [read review] 1/5
--Andrea Chase (Killer Movie Reviews)
external linkThe comedy works on some levels, the satire works on some levels and the drama works on some levels. The problem is they all don't work on the same level. [read review] 2/5
