SCOTT GLENN (Roger) recently starred in the mountain-climbing thriller Vertical Limit and the acclaimed debut film by director Sofia Coppola, Virgin Suicides. He will next be seen in Buffalo Soldiers, with Joaquin Phoenix and Ed Harris, and in The Shipping News, directed by Lasse Halstr6m, starring with Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore and Judi Dench.
Since his star-making performance in the 1980 hit contemporary western Urban Cowboy, alongside John Travolta and Debra Winger, Glenn's penchant for unpredictable, adventurous characters has led him to a variety of highly regarded film roles.
His feature films include Absolute Power, with Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman; Courage Under Fire, with Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan; The Player, with Tim Robbins; Backdraft, with Kurt Russell and Robert De Niro; the Academy Award-winning Silence of the Lambs, with Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster; The Hunt for Red October, with Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin; Miss Firecracker, with Holly Hunter and Mary Steenburgen; Man on Fire; Silverado, with Kevin Kline and Kevin Costner; The River, with Mel Gibson; The Right Stuff with Ed Harris and Dennis Quaid; Personal Best; Cattle Annie and Little Britches with Amanda Plummer; and Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now.
After a tour in the U.S. Marine Corps, Glenn moved to New York to perfect his work with dialogue for his intended career as a novelist/playwright. After one day as a student of famed actor/teacher William Hickey, Glenn knew that acting would be his life. He continued to study with Lee Strasberg and George Morrison as a member of the Actors Studio and appeared in numerous theatrical productions both On and Off-Broadway throughout his early acting career.
A move to Hollywood resulted in small parts in such films as Robert Altman's Nashville and larger roles in some Roger Corman low budget films. In 1970, James Bridges cast him in his first lead role in The Baby Maker, with Barbara Hershey.
Glenn continues to work on stage, most recently in New York productions of "Killer Joe" (Best Actor nomination from the Drama Desk Awards), with Amanda Plummer: "Dark Rapture," with Marisa Tomei; "Killer's Head" and Lanford Wilson's "Burn This."
