It's a shame Craven seemed to abandon this dark style of filmaking because it really is a sight to behold. Even though the last fight is kind of blah, the rest of the movie more than makes up for it. Also it is slow at times but subsequent scenes are so intense you'll forget about them. Truly this is an underrated piece of horror.--Sonny Fernandez (Diabolical-Dominion.com)
Well handled and tense with great effects. -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
This was the first flick that showed the level of Craven's brilliance as a horror filmmaker. ... "The Serpent and the Rainbow" is an excellent, accessible horror film that appeals to genre fans and mainstream audiences. An absolute must-see.-- (eSplatter.com)

The Haitian element is played up so much that watching this film you almost feel immersed in the culture. Craven never falters for a minute in the authenticity of the storyline. -- (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
