Plot: Peter Chandler and Dr. Lori Ridgeway come across a gruesome flesh-eating cult in New York. Determined to uncover the origins of this mad corruption, they set out on an expedition to the primitive island of Keto. The two are soon trapped in the wilderness, surrounded by a tribe of cannibals and the insane scientist, Dr. Obrero. The doctor captures Chandler, and prepares him for a series of experiments designed to bring about the end of human mortality. In turn, Lori is captured by the murderous tribe and subjected to their bizarre rituals. In the tradition of the classic film, Zombie, Ian McCulloch reprises his role of a New Yorker faced with primal horror.Fabrizio De Angelis, the producer of Lucio Fulci's amazing ZOMBIE, tried to cash in on that film's success by financing this zombie/cannibal hybrid film that not only features ZOMBIE's lead actor, Ian McCulloch, but also some of its footage. The result is an often hilarious gore fest that is far less serious than Fulci's film, but whose sheer lunacy makes up for any of its shortcomings. The story follows Dr. Peter Chandler (McCulloch) and a reporter named Lori (Delli Colli) who discover a rash of cannibalism in New York.  Not a very good zombie film, but a good movie to watch if you're looking for a lot of gore. The zombies looked funny and most of it was really just about the cannibals on the island. Check this if you want gore. 5/10-- (UHM)
Lots of cheesy gore effects and a groanable script makes this dopey fare somewhat fun, but it's still pretty bad.  -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
The film was still fairly popular in Europe and eventually released Stateside in a badly censored version called Doctor Butcher where it became a surprising box office success in the summer of 1982  --Matt Dalton (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
