Mike Epps in Next Friday (2000)

MIKE EPPS plays Day-Day, the cousin to Craig who works at a record store in the suburbs, where his family has moved after winning the lottery. An Indiana native who has been steadily climbing his way up the stand-up comedy ranks for the last five years, Epps makes his feature film co-starring debut in the sequel to the upcoming comedy. Epps was cast after a nationwide search of comedians and actors. After signing with King Management at last year's Laffapalooza fest in Atlanta, Georgia, Epps traveled to Los Angeles where a stellar appearance at the Comedy Store caught Ice Cube's attention and led to his eventual casting in Next Friday.

Having grown up between Gary, Indiana, where he would spend summers with his grandparents, and Indianapolis, where he shared a house with eight siblings and his mother, Epps was the class cut-up who decided in his teens to enter a stand-up contest at an Indiana club called Seville's. His success on stage gave him the courage to strike out on his own, heading to Atlanta where he made a name for himself at the Comedy Act Theater. The owner of the club suggested Epps move to New York to build his act, and within a week, Epps caught a Greyhound to the Big Apple. He was 21 years old. While breaking into the city's conventional comedy clubs proved difficult, the Def Comedy Jam phenomenon stimulated an underground black comedy scene in which Epps excelled. By 1995, Epps ended up on the Def Comedy Jam tour, and has starred in two of HBO's Def Comedy Jam broadcasts.
