Ultraviolet Reviews

external linkIs there anything good about Ultraviolet? Apart from Milla's very brief nude scene, when you see her walk down a hallway from behind, I'd have to say no. Where Date Movie was god awful, it did have some redeeming features. And that's certainly more than can be said about this waste of celluloid. [read review] 0.5/4
--Scott Nash (TheMovieBuffs.com)
external linkI’ll give “Ultraviolet” one star for Milla’s presence alone. As she’s shown in the “Resident Evil” series, the former supermodel is game for just about anything. The actress doesn’t have much range, but when she’s given the right role, as she was in Luc Besson’s 1997 sci-fi opus “The Fifth Element”, she’s a charming screen presence. In “Ultraviolet” she’s wasted, but she’s also the only thing worth watching. [read review] 1/4
external linkSure, you can say this flick is basically Blade meets Resident Evil. I won't deny that. And if you weren't a fan of Equilibrium (I honestly haven't met that many, really), this isn't for you either. But, if you want some insanely innovative action, with a futuristic twist, Ultraviolet is right up your bullet-dodging alley. [read review] 4/5
--Brian Gallagher (MovieWeb)
external linkThe look is called super-saturation or over-saturation. It’s when the colors are all bled out, or excessively sharpened, and it’s normally done to connote flashbacks or sentimentality. In Kurt Wimmer’s Ultraviolet it is everything, every single sequence, every frame. It looks incredible, but unfortunately, it means absolutely nothing. [read review] 2/5
--Keith Breese (FilmCritic.com)
external link...Jovovich, who’s shown sensitivity in her dramatic work, looks spectacularly bored as she power-kicks her way through one bloody pile-up after another. That boredom, like the mystery virus at the center of the film, is contagious. [read review] 0/5
--Kimberley Jones (Austin Chronicle)
external linkWhen it comes to comic book-ish science fiction action movies not screened for critics, Ultraviolet falls short of mark set by Aeon Flux, and that bar is already so low that even a dwarf would have trouble doing the limbo under it. [read review] 1/4
--James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
external linkAfter a fairly nifty opening credit sequence, Ultraviolet rapidly degenerates into a formulaic, post-Apocalyptic action flick that's completely devoid of genuine tension—not to mention surprise or originality... [read review] 1/4
--TIM KNIGHT (Reel.com)
external link...Kurt Wimmer certainly is a distinctive visionary, but if “Ultraviolet” demonstrates anything it would be that his farthest reaches of imagination might not always translate properly to the big screen. [read review] 2/5
--Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)
external linkTake the scripts from every Matrix-like film since "The Matrix," unbind them, toss them up in the air, and then pick up the pieces, and you'd likely have a plot very much like the one in "Ultraviolet." [read review] -5
external link...Ultraviolet is probably the first great Popcorn movie of the year. It’s not brainless and it’s not highbrow, it merely is what it is. A really fun action movie. Sometimes that’s all you need. [read review] 4/5
--Kushmeer Farakhan (MovieMansGuide.com)
external linkUltraviolet takes all the badness of Catwoman and repackages it with the look of live action anime and the mentality of a video game you have no control over. [read review] 0.5/5
--'The Foywonder' (horrorchannel.com)
external link...For a film about cloning and vampirism, perhaps it's appropriate that this umpteenth attempt at recreating The Matrix should suck so much. [read review] 2/5
--Vince Leo (Qwipster.net)
external link...Yep, it's schlock. But, all in all, it's VERY GOOD schlock. As such, it gets 4 stars from me...just barely. [read review] 4/5
--Alex (Moviesforguys.com)
external link...is nice to gaze at but otherwise simplistic, senseless, and eminently skippable. [read review] 1.5/4
--Nick Schager (SlantMagazine.com)
external linkI need to wash my mouth out now. I can still taste this crap. [read review] 3/10
