SHAUNA MACDONALD plays Sarah. The action takes place one year after Sarah has suffered a complete breakdown having lost her husband and daughter in a horrific car accident that she was also involved in. Out of action for a while, she has not seen any of her friends for a year, apart from loyal Beth, who has stuck by her and helped her through.
The caving expedition is intended as a way for Sarah to put the past behind her and start enjoying life again. Speaking about her character, Shauna says: “At the beginning of the film, everything is going great for Sarah. She’s happily married, and has a daughter, but that’s all suddenly and horrifically taken away from her. Sarah is a very energetic, enthusiastic, bright woman, but she has lost her way, all the joy in her life has disappeared. She tries to get back on the horse, so to speak, by going on this trip with her friends.”
Shauna Macdonald was born in Malaysia where her father was teaching English, but her family moved back to Edinburgh, Scotland when she was a baby and was raised there.
Shauna trained at RSAMD, and she has worked across a range of titles in film, television, theatre and radio. Among her feature film credits are JETSAM, NICELAND, THE ROCKET POST, LATE NIGHT SHOPPING, DAYBREAK, THE DEBT COLLECTOR and the short film CHICKEN SOUP.
She appeared on television in “Sea of Souls,” “Spooks,” “State of Play,” “Taggart,” and “Murder Rooms.” In the theatre, she graced the stage in such productions as “A View From A Bridge,” “Victory,” and “Pal Joey.” For BBC Radio, she lent her voice to the role of “Vari” in “Soft Fall The Sounds of Eden.”
