Two decades after the Zucker brothers delivered the definitive word on in-flight comedy with the sidesplitting AIRPLANE movies, the question of how to regenerate the genre has finally been answered. Combine the relentless joke-fest of the Zucker movies, add a cast which appears to have fallen out of a 1970s blaxploitation movie, and serve with a touch of Wayans-brothers-inspired hilarity: today's in-flight meal is a dish called SOUL PLANE! The story begins when Nashawn Wade (Kevin Hart) successfully sues an airline and sets up the first black-owned flight service with the money. Entitled NWA Airlines, planes come resplendent with an on-board casino, a club, scantily clad flight attendants, and enough props to sustain laughs throughout the entire film. Captain Mack (Snoop Dogg) is the pilot, a laid back character with a dubious background. He is both afraid of heights and uncertain where the cockpit is located. A white, middle class family are also along for the ride, lead by the nerdy Elvis Hunkee (Tom Arnold). They serve as the butt of many jokes, particularly because they are stuck in the lower class section of the plane, which resembles a subway car decked out with handrails for the standing-room-only section. The cast clearly relishes working with the material, and they manage to combine an infectious sense of fun with an endless string of one-liners. First-time director Jessy Terrero keeps SOUL PLANE running at a turbulent pace throughout, firing off gags straight from take off, and ending the movie with a smooth landing--ultimately providing a satisfying flight for all passengers.

The raunchy slapstick comedy Soul Plane touches down on DVD in an unrated "Mile High Edition" that adds five minutes of more outrageous material that should appeal to fans who queued up for this urban take on Airplane! Kevin Hart stars a young man who becomes the head of the first all-black airline after winning a major lawsuit. Complications arise during the maiden voyage courtesy of a chemically impeded pilot (Snoop Dogg), a misplaced white family (led by Tom Arnold), and Hart's scheming cousin (Method Man). Snoop, Method, Arnold, and Missi Pyle are the most amusing in the game cast, but too frequently, any attempt to pull Soul Plane out of a scatological tailspin is undone by music-video helmer Jessy Torero's unfocused direction. Still, the gags come fast and furious, so for there's undoubtedly something to laugh at amidst the bathroom and ethnic jibes. --Paul Gaita

Why just fly when you can soar with soul? Take a ride on the Soul Plane.
After a humiliating and horrific experience on a commercial flight, Nashawn Wade (KEVIN HART) sues and is awarded a $100 million settlement. Determined to make good with his newfound wealth he decides to create the airline of his dreams. With the help of his cousin Muggsy (METHOD MAN), Nashawn creates NWA Airlines, the first full-service carrier designed to cater to the urban traveler.
A one-of-a-kind airliner, NWA's metallic purple and chrome-colored plane comes complete with a hot onboard dance club, live DJs and funky music, its own sassy security crew (including MO'NIQUE), sexy flight attendants (including SOFIA VERGARA), a bathroom attendant named Johnny (D.L. HUGHLEY), and a first class section where the Cristal flows like the flightpath ?non-stop.
Departing on its maiden voyage out of Los Angeles, NWA flight #O-69 leaves the ground en route to New York City with a full passenger roster and Capitan Mack (SNOOP DOGG) behind the controls in the tricked-out cockpit. The passengers include Nashawn's furious ex-girlfriend, Giselle (K.D. AUBERT), as well as Elvis Hunkee (TOM ARNOLD), his girlfriend, Barbara (MISSI PYLE), and his two kids (RYAN PINKSTON and ARIELLE KEBBEL). As the onboard party gets more outrageous, the customers get wilder, and chaos reigns throughout the aircraft, Nashawn is forced to land the plane himself and save his airline. With the help of Muggsy, his crew, and Mr. Hunkee, Nashawn brings the plane down in a climax that gives "flying the friendly skies" a whole new meaning.
