For the past 2 years I have worked for a company who sought me out, hired me, used my skills, rapport and training to open the market in Georgia. Although the company headquarters are here in Atlanta, the president owns 17 facilities in various states As I hope that you do not interpret this as a disgruntled employee, I openly say, that this company comes in sheep’s clothing. Having been the top performer historically, the employee with the most seniority, trained new hires, Acted as Director, selected by CEO to give onsite presentations to corporate officials about department, and what we do; Selected to assist CEO with annual budget for 2006 when supervisor was unavailable; acquired endless accolades from customers both verbally and in writing; Maintained the highest quota in the department; Propositioned by my new Supervisor a month after he stated, to partner with him in 18 months, with a business proposal, because he stated that I had the skills he lacked; Informed by President of company just recently, that he wanted to duplicate me for his other locations, I along with all my customers and colleagues can not understand how anyone, could be so blatantly unjust and discriminatory.. As unbelievable as that sounds, it gets to be blatant, when the president of the company promises to look into the situation but only contributes and condones with no intervention. The events went from my supervisor writing me up on the day I took my vacation March 17, 2006 (which he was found to have fabricated and embellished) to being suspended the day I returned from vacation March 27, 2006, to being terminated on a Saturday April 1, 2006 but effective March 31, 2006 while on sick leave and requesting FMLA due to Mental Health reasons associated with the treatment at the job. I believe that the company feels that no one will challenge their decision, and if it was not due to violating my rights under the civil rights act, as I believe they have done on three accounts, (Racism, sexism, and interference with FMLA) and that if not for retaliating and targeting me harshly, unethically and unprofessionally, for bringing this to the attention of corporate who I also discovered was aware and supporting all of this from the beginning, then this would have been simply an employment situation that just did not work out, and I would have walked away from my job as an At-will employee. However, it is not the case, it is an event which I feel if allowed to go un-investigated will only occur again, but with someone who does not have as much history and knowledge about past discriminatory practices that have occurred as I do, hence, they me feel helpless or may be unaware of their rights. Historically, the company has adopted the historical pilgrim/Indian mentality. Where new companies come into the community with the promise of empowering, but only takes for self-gratification and profit for their own personal gain & community. Historically Regency has a pattern of such behaviors as they have hired blacks into management positions when they opened, and hired some with a promise of a position, but after getting operations underway, targeted those same black employees, with inconsistent supervision, discipline, and the employees were either demoted, terminated or forced to resign, then replaced with non-black employees. (Have witnesses and statements to prove/support this). To date only one has filed a suite, which is pending. I sometimes find myself, wanting to give up on justice, people and the civil right laws that are suppose to protect us from going through these illegal events. It seems at times, that the laws don’t matter to those in power, for they believe we are not smart enough to take these matters furthers. As I have witnessed time and time again in Atlanta, that there are still some people in this world who see blacks as inferior. WHY? |
