 Synopses for Three Amigos (1986)
1.Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short travel a dusty road to adventure in this zany mix of sharp one liners and clever sight gags. The Three Amigos are a silent screen comedy act who have seen better days. So has a remote Mexican hamlet which is being terrorized by a fierce bandit gang. Finally, in desperation a naïve villager sends the actors a telegram asking for help. Thinking they're being offered a fortune for a personal appearance, the hapless trio arrives in Mexico, only to discover this time they're dodging real bullets! Directed by John Landis (Animal House, Trading Places), here is an uproarious comedy about three lovable bumblers who are in way over their heads but come what may, they'll always remain the Three Amigos!

2.

Three Western stars (Martin Short, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase) from Hollywood silent films go to Mexico for what they assume will be a publicity appearance, and find they've actually been summoned to fight a local bandit. John Landis directed this 1986 comedy with self-conscious artifice, and it's hard to get into his self-congratulatory joke. Even the three main stars, brilliant comics all, can't sustain anything funny in it. --Tom Keogh

3.When a villainous bandit terrorizes her small Mexican village, a real-life damsel in distress (Patrice Martinez) enlists the help of three goofy singing cowboy Hollywood stars--mistakenly believing that they are as heroic in person as they are onscreen. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short star as the swashbuckling Three Amigos! The wimpy actors think they are going south of the border to perform a one-time show for a large fee. When they are fired from their studio, they have no choice but to accept the offer and head south for the show of a lifetime. As they arrive in the tiny oppressed village, they begin to realize that they are caught in a horrible case of mistaken identity and must truly fight for their lives against the evil marauder El Guapo (Alfonso Arau). They cowardly run for their lives and the village is almost destroyed until they realize the importance of their mission and are forced to use real cunning and bravery to try to defeat the villain and his hordes in order to prove that the Three Amigos! were truly as courageous and heroic as they appeared onscreen. This hilarious spoof of old-fashioned Westerns features marvelous physical comedy from its strong cast.

4.In the days of silent film serials, one of the noblest trios to grace the screen and get the bad guys was the Three Amigos: Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase), Lucky Day (Steve Martin) and Ned Nederlander (Martin Short). But when their Hollywood glory days wane, they receive a letter from a desperate community in Mexico that thinks their heroic characters are for real: they want the Three Amigos to come to their tiny Mexican village and defeat the notorious bandit El Guapo (Alfonso Arau).

Unfortunately, the Three Amigos misinterpret the letter - they're off to visit the Mexican village dressed as their movie characters, thinking they're getting a high paying gig. A plethora of pinatas and a comedy of errors occurs before they can prove themselves as worthy as their screen heroes!

Directed by John Landis (Animal House, Trading Place), here is an uproarious comedy about three lovable bumblers who are in way over their heads but come what may, they'll always remain the Three Amigos!
