The story is as crowd-pleasing as it gets, with the only possible misstep being that the first half (which deals with the assembling of the team) occasionally seems to drag. There's no need to understand hockey to appreciate the film; it has universal appeal. Miracle is inspirational and uplifting - qualities we are as much in need of today as we were during the winter of 1980. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
Kurt Russell's compelling performance is the heart and soul of this re-creation of Olympic history.--Sheri Linden (Hollywod Reporter)
Despite its been-there, done-that theme, Miracle stirs your emotions anyway, watching those American come-back kids trounce the big, bad Soviet Goliaths in a hockey game to end them all. --Kit Bowen (Hollywood.com)
The movie efficiently delivers the story points, though nonsports fans should be warned: the climax features an almost 20-minute re-creation of the penultimate 1980 game between the Americans and the Soviets.--Elvis Mitchell (The New York Times)
The real-life triumphal tale of the 1980 U.S. hockey team may be rousing, but this movie based on it is slushy and sadly personality-free--Stephanie Zacharek (Salon)
The whole world knows the outcome of the big Olympic game in "Miracle," yet director Gavin O'Connor manages to find the tension and soul to this exploration of victory, and the crystal clear skill of coach Herb Brooks. A---Brian Orndorf (FilmJerk.com)
Miracle expresses how even in a time when a nation faces an almost uncertain future, the American people can still be proud of who they are and where they are from, in just one simple moment. 8/10--Joseph Kastner (Movie-Vault.com)
Miracle, which recounts the team’s remarkable Olympic run, receives a calculated, polished, and affectionate treatment courtesy of Disney’s involvement, but benefits immensely from the casting of relative unknowns in the prime hockey player roles. --Sean O'Connell (FilmCritic.com)
Anchored by one of Kurt Russell's best performances, the film doesn't require the viewer to have any knowledge of hockey - and considering how much of the sport is in the movie, that's no small feat. --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
Kurt Russell. The Spirit of Team. Blood, sweat, and PBR. Oly. Hockey Sticks. These are all things a good movie should have. Miracle has them. So, I guess it’s alright. Kinda… --B. Alan Orange (MovieWeb)
Hockey fan or not, this is the first must-see movie of the year, hands-down. Or, should I say, puck-down. --Brian Gallagher (MovieWeb)
If you like – or at least don’t mind – ice hockey, then hang on for a great story, skilfully filmed. 76/100--Brian Webster (Apollo Guide)
