Home on the Range Reviews |
Though billed as a musical comedy, Alan Menken’s bouncy saloon tunes don’t disrupt the action, and the whole thing whips to a frenzied conclusion that the kids will want to watch again and again. Be prepared to buy the video a few months from now. And the soundtrack. [read review] --Sean O'Connell (FilmCritic.com)
But "Home on the Range" doesn't have the crossover quality of the great Disney films like "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King." And it doesn't have the freshness and originality of a more traditional movie like "Lilo & Stitch." [read review] --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
DISNEY'S "Home on the Range" is Hollywood's last major traditionally animated movie - there are no more on the drawing boards - so it's doubly disappointing that this musical about singing cows is so udderly mediocre. [read review] --Lou Lumenick (New York Post)
The laughs from the audience come at widely spaced intervals, since everyone is reacting to something entirely different, making ''Range'' seem to exist in several time zones simultaneously. [read review] --Elvis Mitchell (The New York Times)
Home on the Range" comes across less as a fully realized work of storytelling than as a commercial for a corporation whose goal of entertainment has been replaced by that of making money. [read review] --Michael O'Sullivan (Washington Post)
I make it sound bad, but “Range” is dependable throughout. It just looks lazy in the greater scheme of things, and stinks too much of Disney calling their shot with this release. [read review] B- --Brian Orndorf (FilmJerk.com)
It’s got a charming, simple plot; a smart Alan Menken score; and enough subversive humor to wring a chuckle or two out of Mom and Dad. And don’t worry – Roseanne doesn’t sing. [read review] --Marrit Ingman (Austin Chronicle)
This is just mindless fluff that reminded me of my disdain for non-Pixar animated fare, and proved, by me seeing this, just how bored I was today... [read review] --Brian Gallagher (MovieWeb)
