This is also BY FAR the darkest of the series, and Freddy is definitely at his meanest - not the wannabe-comedian that he becomes after Part 3. Many people will argue that this is the worst of the Nightmare movies due to its cheeziness and obvious exploitations, but I believe that the unintentional humor found therein is part of what gives this movie its charm.--Cortney Fusco (Diabolical-Dominion.com)
The first step towards making Freddy a joker and probably the most 'slasher' movie-ish of the series - this has an at the time realtively unknown director trying his best but not being able to string together a movie that’s really that good. -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)

The original film's director, Wes Craven, didn't want to have anything to do with this film, and his lack of influence shows. This movie sucks.-- (eSplatter.com)
