Liam Neeson in Gun Shy (2000)

Leading international film star LIAM NEESON (Charlie) was nominated for a 1993 Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a British Film and Television Academy Award (BAFTA) for Best Actor for his performance as the charismatic Oskar Schindler in "Schindler's List," directed by Steven Spielberg.

Neeson recently starred in "Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace" for George Lucas; as the ill-fated Jean Valjean in the 1998 screen adaptation of Victor Hugo's ̉Les Miserables" opposite Geoffrey Rush and Uma Thurman; and in Jan De Bont's "The Haunting."

In 1996, Neeson starred in the title role in Neil Jordan's "Michael Collins," for which he received Best Actor honors at the Venice Film Festival, London's prestigious Evening Standard Award for Best Actor, and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. The film also received The Golden Lion Award, the highest accolade at Venice.

The Irish-born actor entered Queens College, Belfast, intending to become a teacher. Instead, in 1976 he joined the renowned Lyric Players Theatre in Belfast making his professional stage debut in Joseph Plunkett's "The Risen People." Two years later he moved to Dublin's Abbey Theatre and appeared in a production of Brian Field's "Translations" and in Sean O'Casey's "The Plough and the Stars" for the Royal Exchange Theater, garnering a Best Actor Award.

In 1980, director John Boorman spotted Neeson playing the character of Lennie in John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" and cast him in his first feature film role in "Excalibur." Since then Neeson has demonstrated his wide-ranging versatility in more than 30 films, including "The Bounty"; "Lamb," for which he received an Evening Standard Drama Award nomination for his sensitive portrayal of a priest tormented by doubts about his faith; Andrei Konchalovsky's "Duet for One" with Julie Andrews; "A Prayer for the Dying" as a political terrorist opposite Mickey Rourke and Bob Hoskins; and in Roland Joffe's "The Mission," also starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons.

Neeson's other films include "Before & After" with Meryl Streep, "Suspect," "The Good Mother" with Diane Keaton, Sam Raimi's fantasy-thriller "Darkman," "The Big Man," "Shining Through," "Under Suspicion," "The Dead Pool," Woody Allen's "Husbands and Wives," "Leap of Faith" with Steve Martin, "Nell" with Jodie Foster and Natasha Richardson, and the title role in Michael Canton-Jones' "Rob Roy" with Jessica Lange.

For the stage, Neeson portrayed Oscar Wilde in David Hare's new play, "The Judas Kiss" in both the London and New York productions in 1998. He made his Broadway debut in 1993 in the Roundabout Theater's revival of Eugene O'Neill's "Anna Christie," for which he received a Tony Award nomination. Neeson has in addition starred in the telefilms "Sworn to Silence," "Sweet as You Are," and "Hold the Dream"; in the miniseries "If Tomorrow Comes" and "A Woman of Substance"; and in the American Playhouse production of "Ethan Frome."
