Plot: Todd Anderson’s (STORM P) life changes instantly when he becomes the New Jersey Nets’ #1 NBA draft pick and signs a 30 million-dollar contract. Whether he likes it or not, his mom, Lady Em (JENIFER LEWIS), is not going to let her son forget his roots. His girlfriend, Brittany (MEAGAN GOOD), plans to make sure that he forgets his roots as quickly as she can make him.As the new black man living in an exclusive suburban neighborhood, Todd attracts a lot of unwanted attention. Neighbor Judge Crowley (DANNY GLOVER), a conservative republican, and his overheated wife (FARRAH FAWCETT) fear the worst. An eccentric security guard (QUEEN LATIFAH) is poised to bust him if any of the neighborhood association's rules are broken. When Todd invites his family and friends from the old neighborhood for a cookout, mayhem is the only logical conclusion. Tempers flare and stomachs growl as Lady Em and her competitive sister, Nettie (RITA OWENS ), quarrel in the kitchen over who is the better cook. Quirky Uncle Leroy (TIM MEADOWS) offers Todd a constant stream of ill-founded advice based on his life experiences. And if that's not enough, Todd’s former sweetheart , Becky (EVE), arrives to stir his memories. An interview for an endorsement deal leaves Todd torn between his past and his future
