Plot: Moving to the suburbs proves tougher than Lola (Lindsay Lohan) expected in this delightful teen comedy from director Sara Sugarman. Suddenly catapulted into the mall-dwelling teenage wilderness of New Jersey, New York City girl Lola feels like her life has come to an abrupt halt. Longing for a return to the bright lights of the metropolis, her only salvation from the monotony of suburban life is the music of her favorite rock band, Sidarthur. Fortunately for Lola, she meets Ella (Alison Pill), a fellow Sidarthur fan, who provides a modicum of intelligent life amongst the scornful cliques running rampant throughout her high school. However, Lola's big-city attitude puts her in a heap of trouble, especially when she crosses paths with the most popular girl in school, Carla (Megan Fox). Keen to usurp Carla from her high-and-mighty position, Lola sets out to take the much-desired lead in the school play, a position her archrival desperately covets. But when Sidarthur announces it is breaking up and playing a sold-out farewell show in New York City, a ticketless Lola makes it her mission to travel back to her own personal Mecca, see the performance, and meet her number one crush, singer Stu Wolff (Adam Garcia). external linkLola's dramas and daydreams are frequently illustrated by whimsical fantasy sequences that come close to taking this tween comedy to the next level but don’t quite feel organic, resulting in a sense of contrivance instead of magical imagination. Also, the lessons learned here don't go far beyond being nice, believing in yourself and telling your parents the truth, which by no means could pass as "Confessions." Would that this film were as pulled together as Lola's fabulous outfits. 2.2/5

external link"Confessions" would seem not to merit too close scrutiny. It's a silly, giggly piece of pink-colored fluff, as hyperactive as its heroine and as redolent of bubble gum and Love's Baby Soft cologne as Lola apparently is. Yet the superficial sweetness masks something rotten.

external linkTheir movie is also guilty of that oft-repeated crime of giving us a high school production whose sophisticated lighting schemes, dance choreography and stage design suggest a budget in the thousands, not to mention behind-the-scenes help from a small army of pros. If Miss Baggoli was brilliant enough to create this extravaganza, it's too bad she didn't get a chance to rewrite the whole movie.

external linkConfessions of a Teenage Drama Queen is a lively production about teenage angst, rock idol crushes and life lessons, populated with splashy musical numbers and great costume changes. Its perfectly suited for adolescent girls--and that's about it. 2.5/4
--Kit Bowen (Hollywood.com)

external linkNot a winner, but it’s at least passable entertainment for kids whose parents want their idols to preach against drunkenness and learn that lying isn’t a good thing. 68/100
