"Roman Holiday" for the MTV generation.--Kirk Honeycutt (Hollywod Reporter)
It's hard to fault Chasing Liberty for following the formula, since that's its goal from the beginning. It's looking to please a certain audience, and going too far afield might miss the target. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
The lack of narrative sophistication allows an Ecstasy-like disposition to set in; ''Liberty'' becomes goo-goo eyed over itself. It lacks the discipline to define Anna sufficiently; rather, it portrays her as either a lovable naïf or a spoiled narcissistin desperate need of a lesson, the kind of thing found in some of the screwball comedies this movie tries to pickpocket.--Elvis Mitchell (The New York Times)
Mandy Moore plays a presidential daughter itching for freedom. Why won't Hollywood give the talented Moore a little bit of her own?--Charles Taylor (Salon)
The screenwriters probably said, "Dude, let's take that story and strip it of everything that's sublime!" This they did very well. "Chasing Liberty" is a comedy with no sense of fun, a romance with no passion. --Jami Bernard (New York Daily News)
A formula-down-to-the-bone teen romance/European travelogue (the third in under a year), “Liberty” is a crushing bore, directed without vision, and written without a brain. D--Brian Orndorf (FilmJerk.com)
Director Andy Cadiff keeps things moving at a brisk pace, and makes good use out of the unusual foreign locales visited by Anna and Ben. --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
The film's overall concept is still unlikely to win many creativity awards, but it's cute, it's entertaining and it featured decent acting from the two leads, as well as chemistry. 6/10--'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)

Watching pretty people cavort in beautiful locales can sometimes be enough to make a movie palatable, but in the end Chasing Liberty is just another coming-of-age flick showcasing the eternal teenager Mandy Moore. --Kit Bowen (Hollywood.com)
It's no longer enough to say that Mandy Moore is a better actress than Britney Spears or any other teen idol pop star. It's getting time to say that Mandy Moore is an actress, one who listens and thinks, and looks like a real person, not an antiseptic princess.--Mick LaSalle (San Francisco Chronicle)
