Genre: Comedy, Spoof, Satire, Animals, Mental Illness, Farce, Campy
Tagline: His news is bigger than your news.
Plot: Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is the top-rated anchorman in San Diego in the ‘70s. When feminism marches into the newsroom in the form of ambitious newswoman Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), Ron is willing to play along at first—as long as Veronica stays in her place, covering cat fashion shows, cooking, and other “female” interests. But when Veronica refuses to settle for being eye candy and steps behind the news desk, it’s more than a battle between two perfectly coiffed anchor-persons…it’s war.

It's hard to say whether Anchorman is the funniest movie of the year - it has enough offbeat and gut-busting moments to make it worth consideration in that category. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
Breaking news: The '70s-era leisure suits and noisy polyester shirts aren't the only thing that's funny about this Will Ferrell flick!--Stephanie Zacharek (Salon)
Sometimes the key to satire is to stay fairly close to the source. "Anchorman," like "This Is Spinal Tap," works best when it's only a degree or two removed from the excesses of the real thing. --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
As absurd, crazy, and wonderfully over-the-top as Ferrell’s own comedic instincts, “Anchorman” is a routinely hilarious comedy, recalling some of Ferrell’s zanier, classic “ Saturday Night Live” characters, as well as, sadly, their critically short shelflife. B+--Brian Orndorf (FilmJerk.com)
...one of the funnier comedies of the year, but Ferrell himself is the weakest link in the chain. ...pleasurable if not terribly exciting. B---Edward Havens (FilmJerk.com)
After all that has been said, what is one to make of ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy’? Well, it is an average comedy that benefits from good performances across the board while containing a plot lacking in continuity and plausibility. --Joe Rickey (Movie-Gurus.com)
Anchorman is, for all intents and purposes, nothing but an excuse to have Will Ferrell and his buddies act like jackasses for 91 minutes. And, if you’re a fan of his ad-libbed, deadpan style, that is a very, very good thing. 7/10--Mark Chua (Movie-Vault.com)
Will Ferrell delivers again, with a little help from his friends, in this scattershot comedy that just manages to hit just enough hilarious moments to look past the fact that there just isn't a well-developed, cohesive movie here. --Vince Leo (Qwipster.net)
This film is more invested in making you laugh at flat-out absurdism than clever irony, and more often than not, it succeeds. --David Thomas (FilmCritic.com)
It’s the Spider-Man 2 of News Anchor Movies…This tastes like an expensive six-pack. It doesn’t serve the cheap punch that Pabst Blue Ribbon might. It’s an upper shelf brand. But, hey…In the end, it’s still just beer. Tasty, delicious beer. --B. Alan Orange (MovieWeb)
It's good for a few laughs, sure, but not nearly as many as you'd expect in this heavily forced, sporadically funny movie. --Brian Gallagher (MovieWeb)
Anchorman is so silly it’s funny, especially because of our genuine leading actor, Will Ferrell. I’m not sure there’s anything the man can’t do; he’s a funny guy inside and out, and it is a pleasure to see his abundance of talent put to good use. --Danny Baldwin (BucketReviews.com)
It’s a badly paced, unevenly written and ill-advised homage to Ferrell’s concept of what he thinks makes him funny. He doesn’t have a clear handle on this, unfortunately. --Andrea Chase (Killer Movie Reviews)
The funniest movie of the year! I laughed from beginning to end! This is one of the funniest films I've ever seen! ... This is a masterpiece of comedy, ready to be watched, re-watched, quoted and imitated for years to come. A--Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)

I thought I laughed hard at "Dodgeball" 's crazy antics, but I now see it pales in comparison to the uncontrollable and oh so enjoyable bursts of laughter I experienced during "Anchorman". --Kevin N. Laforest (Montreal Film Journal)
To praise Anchorman for perceptive social commentary would be giving the movie more credit than it deserves, but it isn’t just pratfalls and sexual humour. 76/100--Brian Webster (Apollo Guide)
"Anchorman" is no "Network," but if you're mad as hell about something, this will take your mind off it for 90 minutes. --Jack Mathews (New York Daily News)
The film's humor might not be for everyone, but if you laughed at the film's trailer or simply enjoy most of Ferrell's "shtick", there should be plenty in here to make this flick one of your faves of the summer (if not, the year) 8/10--'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)
The truest big-screen example of Will Ferrell's idiosyncratic humor to date, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" is often so silly, it's surreal. --Megan Lehmann (New York Post)
The satire is right on the money with its timing—tune into the newscast at anytime and unfortunately it is not too far from reality—but at least with Burgundy, it's more entertaining than disturbing or misleading. --Lynda Lin (The Movie Insider)
