FRANKIE R FAISON (Captain Winship) earned his MFA in Theatre from New York University before beginning his professional career. He received both Tony and Drama Desk nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the brain-damaged Gabriel opposite James Earl Jones in August Wilson's award-winning play, Fences. His other Broadway appearances include Getting Away with Murder, the Brooks Atkinson Theatre production of Of Mice and Men and the Circle in the Square revival of The Iceman Cometh and The Shadow Box.
Faison's film credits include The Silence of the Lambs and its follow-up, Hannibal, as well as Sommersby, Freejack, Albino Alligator, Roommates, Mississippi Burning, Do the Right Thing, Coming to America, The Money Pit, Hanky Panky, Cat People, City of Hope, The Chosen and Ragtime, in which he had the honor of working with the late James Cagney on his last film.
More recently, Faison starred in Down to Earth, with Chris Rock; the independent film Sleepy Time Gal, which premiered at Sundance; The Thomas Crown Affair, with Rene Russo and Pierce Brosnan; the drama 13 Conversations About One Thing, and the TNT film The Santa Claus, with Whoopi Goldberg. Prior to that, he also appeared in Mother Night, with Nick Nolte and I Love Trouble, with Julia Roberts.
Later this year he will be seen starring in the feature drama Gods and Generals, the prequel to the civil war epic Gettysburg, and will appear in The Wire, a new series for HBO.
On television, Faison was a series regular on True Colors, ABC's Prey and NBC's Hot Hero Sandwich, and had guest-starring roles on Law and Order, The Cosby Show, Hawk and HBO's OZ, as well as many other episodic programs.
Faison and his wife Jane Mandel, artistic director of Luna Stage, have three daughters and live near New York.
