Godsend Reviews |
What did the boy's mom (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) and dad (Greg Kinnear) expect, given the fact that they go out of their way to give Adam No. 2 a haircut that makes him look like something out of "Children of the Corn"? Heck, if a barber butchered my 'do like that, I'd change my name to Damian and flip out, too. [read review] --Michael O'Sullivan (Washington Post)
Godsend is recommended viewing for fans of thrillers or any member of the cast, especially Kinnear and De Niro, who continue to give solid performances in most every film they appear in; never letting themselves slack off in the hopes of still garnering a paycheck for putting forth the least amount of effort possible like so many actors seem to do these days. [read review] --Joe Rickey (Movie-Gurus.com)
Godsend is an interesting film to follow while you are sitting there watching it - it explores some interesting questions about a subject that until not too long ago was in the realm of science fiction and is now all of a sudden a rather chilling scientific reality. [read review] 6/10 --W. Andrew Powell (The Gate.ca)
An intellectually barren thriller about the dangers of playing with nature, the movie begins with promise. Scratch that. It doesn't begin with promise. We gave it the benefit of the doubt because maybe, just maybe, something might have come of it. [read review] --Desson Thomson (Washington Post)
The picture, which fails to achieve its ambitions or to fulfill our expectations, is ultimately worse than a violent piece of hack work, in which the director isn't interested in displaying his integrity — or taste. [read review] --Elvis Mitchell (The New York Times)
The acting is hammy, the story’s riddled by credibility gaps, and the technical aspects are dreary. In other words, it’s a perfect B-movie horror film, except that very little happens at a very slow pace. [read review] --Sean O'Connell (FilmCritic.com)
Neither very scary nor very interesting, Godsend is an unresurrectable muddle, and one that Stephen King and Mary Lambert pulled off with much more aplomb (minus the sci-fi, of course) in Pet Sematary. [read review] --Marc Savlov (Austin Chronicle)
With a hot topic subject matter as potentially fascinating as human cloning, this film should have been at the very least thought provoking. Simply put, Godsend is an utter waste of time. [read review] --Mike Pereira (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
Great premise, decent acting, nice score, a few "boo scares", but ultimately very little in terms of entertainment value, originality, depth or thrills. A cheapie video rental at best. [read review] 5/10 --'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)
No matter; "Godsend" isn't about cloning so much as about shock, horror, evil, deception and the peculiar appeal that demonic children seem to possess for movie audiences. [read review] --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
Overall, the film is mediocre, with some good scares and an interesting and original premise. It just lacked the ability to go to the darker places it wanted to go. [read review] 5/10 --Nate Anderson (Movie-Vault.com)
GODSEND is a turgid little mood piece that manages to miss every opportunity to actually engage, much less terrify its audience. [read review] --Andrea Chase (Killer Movie Reviews)
Godsend is godawful. That's not a statement I expected to be making 30 minutes into this 102-minute motion picture. [read review] --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
The narrative is so bad that people were laughing at scenes that were supposed to be tense and gripping. [read review] D --Gareth Von Kallenbach (Lee's Movie Info)
