Alone in the Dark Reviews |
I’d like to congratulate Dr. Uwe Boll for he has accomplished a feat I thought could never be tampered with- he has joined Ed Wood as one of the worst filmmakers of all time. But let’s talk about HOW you achieve that goal. You have to think you’re brilliant, talk like a genius and hype up your stuff so much that when your movie hits theaters people think you’re retarded or just insane- maybe both. Give this one a chance, even if it's not the best flick ever made, this is kick-ass entertainment and I promise that whoever you ask, no one will say that they were bored while watching the film, they might not have liked it, but being bored while watching it would be an impossibility unless you're an old fart who doesn't know the meaning of the word entertainment. Honestly, I have no idea what the hell was going on at any point in this movie. None of it makes even the slightest bit of sense. This is one of those movies where you can only describe the plot by saying "things happen" because there is little rhyme or reason as to how or why most of what is happening is happening. The boredom factor remains firmly in place throughout, despite attempts to rouse us. Action scenes are filmed in tight frames or in the dark so you can’t follow anything except the flash of bullets, and random characters we don’t care about get extensivetime facing off with apparitions/zombies/goblins.....Alone in the Dark is still an improvement on House of the Dead. [read review] --Pete Croatto (FilmCritic.com)
This is a film about the mysteries of sleep, tortured orphans, unexplained phenomena, archeological expeditions, an ancient civilization, lizard monsters (that are said to inexplicably fulfill the protagonist's destiny), martial arts, zombies, governmentconspiracies, and Tara Reid's breasts...It's interesting how bad Alone in the Dark is. [read review] --Lucas Stensland (eFilmCritic.com)
Alone in the Dark is the worst kind of bad movie there is -- the boring kind....And don't even think about taking a date to see it, or you'll start to understand the meaning of the title when she walks out on you in an exasperated huff. [read review] --Vince Leo (Qwipster.net)
That ridiculously long scroll that introduces “Alone in the Dark” informs us that when the Abkani opened that terrible door, they released something truly hideous into our world. A pity the writers didn’t warn us that it was this movie. [read review] F
There is one moment of explicit head trauma gore sure to get the gorehounds yapping, but the other 95 minutes of the film are so scatterbrained and ill-conceived as to render even that bit of grue irrelevant. [read review] --Marc Savlov (Austin Chronicle)
FORGET creepy demons, shadowy conspiracies and ancient evils. The only real mystery about the in competent and unscary new horror movie "Alone in the Dark" is why Tara Reid doesn't show her boobs. [read review] --Russell Scott Smith (New York Post)
The movie is loosely based on a video game, but the game can't be this complicated....might be an apt description of anyone unfortunate enough to buy a ticket for this movie. [read review]
...the sheer stupidity of the film could provide more inadvertent entertainment than most of the other films they are likely to encounter this year. [read review] --Peter Sobczynski (eFilmCritic.com)
The title is the best part of the movie, because it fits the movie quite well. If you see this movie, you definitely will be alone in the dark... [read review] --Brian Gallagher (MovieWeb)
Hoping to be a sort of hybrid "Matrix" meets "Indiana Jones" meets "Alien," Unfortunately, "Alone in the Dark" is just a bad movie. [read review]
I am now firmly convinced that Uwe Boll is a moron who should not be allowed near a camera -- at least not one with film in it. [read review] --Don Kaye (horrorchannel.com)
The only thing surprising about this train-wreck of a film...is that it somehow got picked up for distribution by LIONS GATE! [read review] --Scott Weinberg (eFilmCritic.com)
Need a laugh? Uwe Boll's ALONE IN THE DARK is so far off the scale bad that the only possible reaction is to laugh at it... [read review]
If someone recommends you see Alone in the Dark, assume that person hates you or at least dislikes you. [read review]
...I can’t think of a reason to recommend it, nor an audience to recommend it to. [read review]
You know "Alone in the Dark" is going to be bad just by looking at the cast list. [read review] F --Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
The ending makes no sense at all, which explains the title, which doesn't either. [read review]
"Is it wrong to love a movie because it's so awful?" - Collin Souter [read review] --Collin Souter (eFilmCritic.com)
There is a reason to fear being alone in the dark: it’s this movie. [read review] 45/100 --Mike DeWolfe (Apollo Guide)
