The Devil Wears Prada Reviews |
On balance, I enjoyed the film, despite the whiny final half hour and the artificial conclusion. (Whatever happened to hard-edged endings in satires?) I recognize that the film is being marketed toward women, but I see no reason why men can't enjoy what The Devil Wears Prada offers.... [read review] --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
Thanks to a sharp script and four perfectly cast actors, "The Devil Wears Prada" is fun and entertaining even if you're not a fan or slave to fashion. Women should appreciate the characters and all the fashion stuff, bt it's not the type of movie that will leave guys in pain if they're dragged to see it by their wives or girlfriends. With all of the high fashion design and the lofty atmosphere of that world, “The Devil Wears Prada” is aimed at the youthful fashion-conscious femme audience and it hits its target squarely. But, it is clever enough, with some very biting dialog (mostly thanks to Meryl’s delivery), to be suitable date material for the more open-minded guys. Quality shows, even in a chick flick. Ultimately, the film is mediocre at best, namely because it just doesn't live up to the promise of its title. Priestly may be evil, but she's not the devil. She's just a tough boss that gets her way. As for the Prada, I can't say. She could be wearing the Jaclyn Smith collection and I'd never know the difference. [read review] --Christopher Null (FilmCritic.com)
Meryl Streep gives a wonderful performance as Miranda, who is a boss of all bosses, and clearly knows her power. Tucci is equally entertaining. But the best of all is Blunt, who plays the bitchy, ambition-obsessed Emily with a deft touch. I’ll give her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar right now....This is brilliant and funny. Don’t miss it. ...is a chick-flick, but there are things about it that a heterosexual man can enjoy. The way Anne Hathaway looks, Emily Blunt's comedy, but mostly Meryl Streep's performance as Miranda, which is as terrific as you'd expect from the veteran actress. [read review] --Scott Nash (TheMovieBuffs.com)
Clothes to die for and an outrageous fashion diva compete for attention in this dishy comedy. [read review] --Kirk Honeycutt (Hollywod Reporter)
