...needed more work before going before the cameras, meaning – the script; but that’s not to say an entertaining movie wasn’t created. Specifically, it needed more work in the story’s plausibility department. The premise is terrific and the buildup of suspension is taut, but moments of ignorance and incompetence, which I can only assign to the screenplay, detracted from the overall experience. ...is one of those movies that is enjoyable enough so that it is possible to forgive the many plot holes in the script..... a great paced movie with lots of tension and action. However, you know exactly where the movie is going the entire time and can guess how it will all play out. [read review] --Scott Nash, Eric (TheMovieBuffs.com)
...is bottom of the barrel, a movie that is either too stupid, clichéd, or boring to waste time on. Very few interesting things happen and the stuff that does is few and far between. Bruce Willis will occasionally do a movie that is stunning in its badness – this is one of those times. [read review] D --Craig Younkin (Lee's Movie Info)
According to the credits, it took a total of 14 producers to bring this movie to the screen. Though it feels like there's a "light bulb joke" in there somewhere, it begs a more urgent question: How many more producers would it have taken to make this a better film? [read review] --GARY GOLDSTEIN (Reel.com)
"16 Blocks" is a meat and potatoes actioner that's raised up by choice direction and a juicy turn by star Willis. Warner Brothers may be surprised to find it performing better their February release, the Harrison Ford starrer "Firewall." [read review] B-
This terrific, character-driven thriller broke that horrible streak of bad films for me. It’s not the kinetic, overly-edited action flick your used to, but more of an old fashioned thriller that really delivers. [read review] --Michael Sheridan (Tailslate.net)
This is a classically made New York character thriller, and if there are still fans out there of composed, attentive filmmaking, "16 Blocks" is your best bet for entertainment this month. [read review] --Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)
...would have played nicely as a little film with modest aspirations. As it is, it takes its premise and runs it straight into the ground with an insouciant gusto. [read review] --Andrea Chase (Killer Movie Reviews)
For all its hair-trigger thrills and would-be suspense, 16 Blocks leaves you wondering what the point of it all was. Couldn't these guys have just called a cab? [read review] C --Rob Vaux (Flipsidemovies.com)
While “16 Blocks” lacks the social resonance of Mr. Lumet’s films, like Mr. Willis’ exhausted cop, it shows a desire to be something more than it is. [read review]
It takes about 90 minutes to make this particular 16 block trip. On some days in New York, that's par for the course. Next time, take the subway. [read review] --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
The action scenes was very intense not once did I look at my watch. The supporting cast was pretty good in their roles as well.... [read review]
16 Blocks is an interesting and often exciting ride, but far from a can't-be-missed night at the Cineplex. [read review]
This is a high-tempo, grandly entertaining chase film with good character development by Willis... [read review] 9/10 --Tony Medley (TonyMedley.com)
A gritty, dirty cop drama that actually has a good story! And Bruce Willis finally acts his age. [read review] --Steven Chupnick (MovieWeb)
This is not a great film but it is entertaining. [read review]
