JOHN STOCKWELL (Director, Screenplay), one of Hollywood’s busiest directors, embraces the opportunity to bring challenging material and unconventional characters to the screen.
Last year, Stockwell directed Kirsten Dunst as an emotionally troubled teen in the critically acclaimed crazy/beautiful.
He first captured Hollywood’s attention with his 1997 HBO docu-drama Breast Men, starring David Schwimmer, Chris Cooper, Emily Procter and Louise Fletcher. Stockwell wrote the script based on a true story about the rise and fall of two Texas doctors, who invented silicone breast implants. He wrote and directed HBO’s critically acclaimed Cheaters, the true story of a Chicago high school English teacher who persuaded his students to cheat in the 1995 Illinois Academic Decathlon. The film stars Jeff Daniels, Paul Sorvino and Jena Malone and was nominated for an Emmy®.
Stockwell spent months immersing himself in the heavy metal culture to write Stephen Herek’s feature film Rock Star. He is currently writing, with an eye to directing, the thriller I Would Die For You, about a young man struggling with commitment and monogamy whose fatal misstep comes back to haunt him.
Stockwell’s verite style stems in part from his early career as an actor. After receiving an undergraduate degree at Harvard, he entered New York University’s filmmaking program. As an actor his credits include: Losin’ It, Christine, Top Gun, North and South and Billionaire Boys Club.
