KATE BOSWORTH (Anne Marie) captured Hollywood’s attention with her role as Judith, the ill-fated best friend of the scarred young girl in Robert Redford’s critically acclaimed The Horse Whisperer. It was her athletic abilities as an equestrian, revealed in that film, which she drew upon to land her the role as surfer Anne Marie in John Stockwell’s Blue Crush.
The champion equestrian actually began her acting career on a whim at 14 and later appeared in the television teen drama Young Americans. Before that she acted in a community theater production of Annie and performed as a singer in California county fairs.
But it was her novel approach that caught casting directors’ attention when she submitted a Christmas card photo in lieu of a professional headshot for the role of Judith in The Horse Whisperer. In the 1998 romantic drama, she is credited as Catherine Bosworth.
After production, she returned to her non-acting life, attending high school and pursuing various athletic endeavors for 18 months to insure that work would not be the main focus of the remaining years of her childhood. In 2000, she was featured as the bratty sister of the protagonist in the independent children’s film The Newcomers. She made her television debut as a series regular in the Young Americans. She played a well-adjusted small town girl of unknown parentage.
She returned to films, appearing as Emma in Remember The Titans, co-starring Denzel Washington. She can be seen in the upcoming The Rules ofAttraction based on Bret Easton Ellis’s book.
