This horror classic was the highest grossing independent film of all time until The Blair Witch Project took the title twenty years later. Along with Friday The 13th this was reponsible for the slasher movie glut of the early 80s yet none of them was able to capture the magic of this. [read review] -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
The slasher film that started it all. Inspired by the works of the late-great Alfred Hitchcock, John Carpenter manages to scare the audience without the overuse of gore or pop-up scares. No, he scares the audience by simply using a scary character, whom we barely see, and show just how evil he really is. One of the best horror films ever made. It's hard to not see this movie,... but if for some reason you haven't seen this yet... *slap*... See it now! [read review] 9/10 --FrighT MasteR (UHM)
There is no denying that the little-independent –film-that-could represented a milestone in the horror genre. ... Halloween was a turning point for horror movies in that they would now be taken seriously, occasionally as an artform. [read review] --Cortney Fusco (Diabolical-Dominion.com)
As we all know, it's a masterpiece that's been imitated by everything from the Friday the 13th series to the Nightmare on Elm Street series to the Scream series to a zillion other slasher films made over the past two decades. [read review] -- (eSplatter.com)
It is simply the greatest slasher movie ever devised and can be considered in the same league as The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby, Psycho and Jaws. HIGHLY recommended. [read review] --Jason Chisari (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
If Psycho is the grandfather of the slasher genre, then this sure as hell is the daddy. ... A remarkable achievement that has never been matched. [read review] 95/100 --Jack Witzig (ColdSpot)
