Plot: A shady hypnotist (Richard Garland) regresses the memory of a fallen woman (Pamela Duncan) so that she actually goes back in time to reexperience past lives. Things go wrong when she helps a medieval version of herself named Helene escape being executed as a witch, thereby throwing the whole course of her future lives out of balance. The hypnotist himself goes back into the past to warn Helene and ends up meeting the devil (Richard Devon), who's been expecting him. Shapely cult figure Alison Hayes (ATTACK OF THE 50-FOOT WOMAN) plays Livia, a witch who has framed Helene in order to steal her fiancé (Val Dufour). Livia can turn into a cat or a bat and has an imp companion played by Billy Barty. Dorothy Neumann is a good witch who recognizes a colleague in the strange hypnotist from the future. Mel Welles is a singing gravedigger. Roger Corman made this picture in 10 days for $75,000, using lots of smudge-pot fog to obscure the lack of sets. It was meant to capitalize on the reincarnation craze ignited by the best-selling book THE SEARCH FOR BRIDEY MURPHY; the craze died, but the film lives on as a witty and inventive cult classic.
