The film becomes a vehicle for cruel and unusual death scenes, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself (such as in the sublime Friday the 13th: the Final Chapter), but Silent Night, Deadly Night just isn't able to pull it off as a whole package due to its confusion on what it is trying to be: mindless slasher or semi-intelligent thriller.--Cortney Fusco (Diabolical-Dominion.com)
I wanted to like this movie, but it was too slow in parts for me. It starts off pretty interesting, but slows down a lot as time goes on. ... One of the better santa flicks. Kind of slow and boring in parts. A decent rent for an 80's slasher. 5/10-- (UHM)
Protested upon its release and eventually pulled from theatres this holiday slasher can't quite live up to its reputation but it's certainly on my seasonal 'must' viewing list. ... Ripped off many times since this is total exploitation filmmaking with tons of memorable moments and it's fairly easy to see why some people got offended; but for us true horror fans the subject delivers pretty much what we're expecting even if it doesn't really get down to the killing until about halfway in. -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
...it isn't half-bad, as far as slasher films go, and not nearly as exploitational as it was made out to be. --Jack Witzig (ColdSpot)

But is it worth seeing? Absolutely. Who can resist a movie where Santa has lines like "Punishment is necessary." But if you're really looking for a great holiday horror film, you should see "Black Christmas," a masterpiece.-- (eSplatter.com)
The F/X are cheesy, the story is cheesy. But cheese goes better and Christmastime for me. --Jekyll (horror-web.com)
