GARY MARCUS (Producer) has worked on 40 feature films and has been the first assistant director on over 25 films. He recently co-produced Mike Figgis’ digital feature Time Code and co-produced Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides. Gary worked with Francis Ford Coppola on Jack and The Rainmaker, on which he was credited as associate producer. Gary’s films as first assistant director include Louis Malle’s Vanya on 42nd Street, Joel and Ethan Coen’s Miller’s Crossing, John Sayles’ Eight Men Out, Merchant/Ivory’s The Ballad of the Sad Cafe, Mike Figgis’ Leaving Las Vegas and One Night Stand, Jay Roach’s Austin Powers: The Spy who Shagged Me, and Jean Marie Poire’s Just Visiting. His European credits include producing Far From Berlin stamng Armin Mueller-Stahl and as an assistant director in
Budapest on Peter Gothar’s Just Like America. He has worked with Bertrand Tavernier on the New York shooting of Round Midnight, and was first assistant director for Luc Besson on his New York shoot of Le Grand Bleu. Additionally, Marcus was a founding member and director for the multiracial theater company The Actor’s Gym, based in Harlem. Marcus also directed a short, Working for Harry, which was awarded Best Short Film at the New Orleans Film Festival and the Turin Film Festival in Italy.
