Plot: A young couple spy a sickly drunk in the London's underground railway system. The man is discovered to be a displaced member of British high society and his story leads to the unearthing of a literal underground society. The British police (led by character actor Donald Pleasence) follow a trail of tube station crimes and stumble upon a group of former underground rail construction workers who were trapped in a tunnel collapse during the Victorian era. Those who survived have gone to extreme needs to survive, including cannibalism, and now must be stopped by the authorities. This artfully constructed slasher film has retained a cult following since its brief theatrical release in America in 1973. A decent movie, but too boring for my tastes. I expected more cannibal action and instead got a whole lotta talkin'. Not recommended unless you really dig cannibal flicks, but if that were the case I'd recommend Cannibal Apocalypse. 5/10--FrighT MasteR (UHM)
