Competently done early effort from Craven keeps your interest okay and has some decent moments of suspense but its biggest fault has to be the fact that it's a tad too slow going for my liking. ... A curious effort with a so-so shock ending... -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
Over all, however, the flick is forgettable. The score by James Horner is a ludicrous imitation of Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack for "The Omen" and the ending is way too busy and overplotted to make a whole lot of sense.-- (eSplatter.com)
No good scares and the directing and acting wasn't too bad. ... One of Wes Craven's smaller, more underrated films. Decent slasher. Worth a rent if you're looking for something. 5/10--FrighT MasteR (UHM)

One of Wes Craven's best films, an oddball but often scary thriller mixing elements from religious, slasher, snake, spider and monster flicks. Original storytelling method, several shocks, tense scenes and a great cast makes this pleasant horror-film viewing but it's not for everyone and it's marred by some stuff that don't make sense, including a bad, out-of-place twist ending. --Slicer-Dicer (SlasherPool)
