Tagline: The Aborgine and the girl 30,000 years apart ...together
Plot: In this unconventional narrative film, director Nicholas Roeg sees the life of civilization as arid and unrewarding. Abandoned in the Australian outback, three young travellers survive because of an Aborigine's skills. Communication is a problem, although more for the girl than for her little brother, who still has a child's ability to cut straight through the language to the message. The two teenagers, the girl and an aborigine, fail because they never find a way to communicate, not even through sign language. A commentary on pastoral simplicity versus cosmopolitan clutter, this haunting film marked Nicholas Roeg's directorial debut. Based on the novel by James Vance Marshall.
