JOHNNY DEPP (Inspector Fred Abberline) has earned both critical and popular acclaim for his work in an array of memorable film roles. He starred in Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow," co-starring Christina Ricci, marking his third collaboration with Tim Burton. Their previous efforts, "Ed Wood" and "Edward Scissorhands," earned Depp Best Actor Golden Globe nominations.
Depp's recent films include "Chocolat," "The Man Who Cried," "Blow," "The Astronaut's Wife," Roman Polanski's "Ninth Gate" and Terry Gilliam's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel. Depp's latest film project is "Once Upon A Time In Mexico," directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Hailed as the "Best Actor" of his generation for his performance in "Donnie Brasco," in which he co-starred with Al Pacino, Depp then starred in "Dead Man," an 1880s western directed by Jim Jarmusch.
In "Don Juan DeMarco." Depp portrayed a man convinced he is the world's greatest lover, opposite legendary actors Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway. He was honored with a Golden Globe nomination for his role in "Benny & Joon," an offbeat love story co-starring Aidan Quinn and Mary Stuart Masterson.
Depp's other films include "What's Eating Gilbert Grape'?" directed by Lasse Hallstrom, which starred Depp in the title role; "Arizona Dream," directed by Emir Kusturica, in which he starred with Jerry Lewis and Faye Dunaway; and "Nick of Time," directed by John Badham.
The Kentucky-born actor grew up in Florida where he developed an early interest in music. Joining a rock band named Kids, Depp found considerable regional success, eventually following the group to Los Angeles. When the band broke up shortly thereafter, he turned to acting on the advice of a friend. He soon landed his first important role, in "Nightmare On Elm Street." He appeared in several other films, including "Slow Burn" and the Academy Award winning Platoon" before earning a breakthrough role as undercover detective Tim Hanson on the hit Fox series "21 Jump Street." He starred on the show for four seasons before segueing to the big screen in the lead role of John Waters' "Cry Baby."
Depp starred and made his feature directorial debut in "The Brave," based on the novel by Gregory McDonald. Depp co-wrote the screenplay with his brother, D.P. Depp.
