Can Bruce Willis save Africa from the Africans? Not in Antoine Fuqua's overwrought, blood-drenched fable of bogus Hollywood heroism, he can't.--Stephanie Zacharek (Salon)
...it’s an entertaining if not partially thrilling cat-and-mouse chase for any Willis fan to be pleased to some extent. B--Lee Tistaert (Lee's Movie Info)
Overdramatic acting and cliché military verbiage ruins an otherwise fine film with a tremendous message hidden deep within the blockbuster action flick shell. 6/10--Dick Douglas (Movie-Vault.com)
Every single element in Tears of the Sun is simplified to such an extent that the film feels more like a one of those educational films you were forced to watch in grade school. --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
With his gleaming dome and cement squint, Bruce Willis is a contemporary correspondent to inscrutable 60s star Yul Brynner, so it's apt that he should feature in this muddled, unacknowledged reworking of The Magnificent Seven. --Nev Pierce (BBC Films)
Mostly looks good and does succeed in maintaining its tension, but it’s stupid and objectionable. 63/100--Brian Webster (Apollo Guide)
I'm not sure the film's energetic conclusion would have saved the rest of the picture, which on the whole, went on for too long, didn't develop enough of its characters and ultimately, wasn't all that engaging. In fact, if you're going into this flick expecting an "action" movie...walk away! 5/10--'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)

Basic, watchable Jungle Mission shoot-‘em-up thriller in which Bruce Willis says Very Little Indeed and "Dr" Monica Bellucci runs around wearing a low-cut top that would put 24's Kimmeh to shame. Not that there's anything wrong with that. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
