Plot: Joseph Kopple lives in a Brooklyn walk-up, lost in memories of his dead wife and his failed career as concert violinist. He has only a flirtatious neighbor and a sharp-witted old friend who lives in a nursing home for company, and his nightly violin playing is his only solace. But then fate drops Charlotte into Joseph's life; the beautiful and vivacious woman finds herself out on the street after a brawl with her boyfriend. Joseph takes her in, and discovers that his act of kindness -- and his growing feelings for Charlotte -- lead him on a spiritual voyage of rediscovery.
