 Synopses for Mr. Deeds (2002)
1.

Following the flop of Little Nicky, Adam Sandler returned to safe territory in Mr. Deeds... and made Nicky look inspired by comparison. A loose remake of Frank Capra's 1936 classic Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, this dumbed-down version finds Sandler in the Gary Cooper role, inheriting a vast fortune and a corporate empire, foiling a greedy executive (Peter Gallagher), and winning the heart of an undercover reporter (Winona Ryder) who's been mocking his small-town naiveté in print while falling for his goodhearted sincerity. It's fun enough to satisfy Sandler's loyal fans--and John Turturro's a hoot as Deeds's foot-fetishist butler--but the subtleties of Capra are lost on Sandler, director Steven Brill, and writer Tim Herlihy. While Gary Cooper portrayed a rube who was savvy about big-city cynicism, Sandler's an amiable goofball with a heart of gold and an empty skull. You can admire him, and parts of the movie (including Steve Buscemi's unbilled cameo), but you have to work harder to get there. --Jeff Shannon

2.Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler) is content to run his pizzeria in the cozy New Hampshire hamlet of Mandrake Falls. His only further desire is to someday see one of his corny rhymes printed in a greeting card. Deeds is awarded much more when he inherits the $40 billion empire of a media tycoon, a distant relative. He is lured to New York City by unscrupulous partners of the deceased where he is prayed upon by greedy stockholders. He also makes ample fodder for tabloid journalists, notably reporter Babe Bennett (Winona Ryder) who poses as a school nurse from Iowa to win Deed's heart and expose him as an idiot to her viewership. Against her will and her own sleazy principles, Babe falls for the charming naivety of Deeds, whose fortune is in jeopardy.

Adam Sandler's man-child persona stands in for Gary Cooper in this remake of the 1936 MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN. Sandler and longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy have molded the Frank Capra romantic comedy into a perfect vehicle for its star and a love letter to New York City. Jared Harris as a tabloid TV host and John Turturro as an omnipresent Spanish butler shine in supporting roles.

3.Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler) is a sweet, lovable guy leading a simple but happy life in the tiny hamlet of Mandrake Falls, New Hampshire. Deeds is admired by the locals who crowd into his pizzeria to hear him recite his offbeat (but hilarious) greeting card poetry.

Life is good at the small town restaurant until two corporate fancy execs bring news that Deeds is about to be rolling in a different kind of dough. A long lost relative has left him an inheritance of 40 billion dollars along with the largest media company in the world, a football team, a basketball team, and a private helicopter ready to whisk him off to corporate America.

It's a fish out of water, rags to riches story that has local tabloid reporters, including Babe Bennett (Winona Ryder), salivating. With the help of his trusty valet, Emilio (John Turturro), Deeds ultimately discovers what life is really all about and has to prove that money changes everything… but not everyone.

4.When small-town Guy Longfellow Deeds goes to New York City to collect his 40 billion dollar inheritance, he doesn't know what to expect. What he gets is a wacky personal butler, a sexy but devious girlfriend and a hilarious lesson on how money changes everything.
