John Leguizamo in Honeymooners, The (2005)

A multi-faceted performer and Ernmy Award winner, JOHN LEGUIZAIVIO (Dodge) has established a career that defies categorization. His work in film, theatre, television, and literature covers a variety of genres and continually threatens to create a few of its own.

Leguizarno recently starred in “Cronicas” and “Assault on Precinct 13.” Coming soon from Leguizamo is “Land of the Dead,” the fourth installment of writer/director George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” series, as well as “The Alibi,” “Sueno,” and the sequel to the animated blockbuster “Ice Ace.”

Leguizamo made his feature directorial debut on HBO’s “Undefeated.” Scripted by Frank Pugliese from a story by Leguizamo and Kathy DeMarco, the film is a drama about a young Latino boxer dealing with love and career success.

Leguizamo’s filmography also includes “Empire,” “Spin,” Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge,” starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, for which he was nominated for an ALMA award for Best Supporting Actor, Spike Lee’s “Summer of Sam,” “King of the Jungle” (ALMA nomination. Best Lead Actor), “Spawn,” Luhrmann’s “William Shakespeare’s Romeo ± Juliet,” and “Dr. Dolittle.” For his performance as a sensitive drag queen in “Too Wong Foo: Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar,” Leguizamo garnered a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

A sensation in New York for his one-man shows, Leguizamo collected Obie, Outer Critics Circle, and Vanguardia awards for his performance in “Mambo Mouth”; the Theatre World Award for Outstanding New Talent and a Drama Desk Award for Best Solo Performance for “Spic-O-Rama”; and Tony Award nominations for Best Play and Best Pcrtbrmance by a Leading Actor in a Play and the Drama Desk and the Outer Critic’s Circle Awards for Outstanding Solo Performance for “Freak.” His most recent show, “Sexaholix... a Love Story,” earned him a nomination for an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Performance and a Tony nomination for Best Special Theatrical Performance. Leguizamo also earned an Emmy Award for the HBO broadcast of “Freak” and a CabIeACE Award for his first television comedy special, Comedy Central’s “The Talent Pool.”

Raised in New York City, Leguizamo studied acting with Lee Strasberg and Wynn Handman at New York University. He was the recipient of the 2002 ALMA Award for Entertainer of the Year.
