As an actor, SEAN PENN's (Director/Producer) work has spanned nearly two decades, with over 25 films to his credit. His feature film acting debut was in 1981 with "Taps," directed by Harold Becker, followed by many other films. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Tim Robbins' "Dead Man Walking" and won Best Actor awards from the Berlin Film Festival and the Independent Spirit Awards. In 1997 Penn was honored with the Cannes Film Festival's Best Actor Award for his performance in "She's So Lovely." Another Best Actor Award followed from the Venice Film Festival for his performance in Anthony Drazan's "Hurlyburly," a film adaptation of David Rabe's play. Penn was next seen in Terrence Malick's "The Thin Red Line" and Woody Allen's "Sweet and Lowdown," which garnered another Academy Award nomination. He can currently be seen in Kathryn Bigelow' s "The Weight of Water."
In recent years, Penn's involvement has expanded with the formation of his own production shingle, Clyde Is Hungry Films. He has acted in and produced the films "She's So Lovely," "Loved" and "U-Turn." He wrote and directed "Indian Runner" and "The Crossing Guard," which he also produced.
Penn's theatrical performances include Alfred Hayes' "Girl on the Via Flaminia" and Albert Innaurato's "Earthworms" in Los Angeles. On Broadway, Penn performed in Kevin Heelan's "Heartland" and John Byrne's "S lab Boys." He appeared in David Rabe's plays "Hurlyburly," at the Westwood Playhouse and "Goose and Tom Tom," at Lincoln Center, both productions directed by the author.
