Rachel Weisz in Envy (2004)

RACHEL WEISZ (Debbie Dingman) first gained international recognition in 1999 with her starring role in the blockbuster “The Mummy,” opposite Brendan Fraser. Two years later, she reprised her role in the hugely successful sequel “The Mummy Returns.” She more recently starred with Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman and John Cusack in “Runaway Jury,” based on John Grisham’s bestseller, and in the hit comedy “About a Boy,” opposite Hugh Grant. She also starred in the independent features “Confidence,” with Dustin Hoffman and Ed Burns, and “The Shape of Things,” which she also produced with writer/director Neil LaBute.

Weisz had originally starred in the theatrical version of LaBute’s “The Shape of Things,” first in London’s West End and then off-Broadway. The play marked Weisz’s return to the stage where she began her acting career in her native England.

Weisz studied at Cambridge University and was a co-founder of the Talking Tongues Theatre Group, which performed a number of experimental pieces and won the prestigious Guardian Award at the Edinburgh Festival. She made her London stage debut in Noel Coward’s “Design For Living,” directed by Sean Mathias, for which Weisz won the London Drama Critics Circle Award for Most Promising Newcomer. She again worked with Mathias in the West End production of “Suddenly Last Summer.”

Breaking into film, Weisz appeared in Bernardo Bertolucci’s “Stealing Beauty,” Andrew Davis’ “Chain Reaction” and Mark Pellington’s “Going All the Way.” She went on to star in “Swept From the Sea” and “The Land Girls” before playing the female lead in “The Mummy.” Her film credits also include starring roles in “Sunshine,” “Beautiful Creatures” and “Enemy at the Gates.”

Weisz will next be seen in “Constantine,” with Keanu Reeves, and begins production in May on “The Constant Gardener,” opposite Ralph Fiennes, for director Fernando Meirelles.
